if you have a spare couple of days, the Carlos miniseries is great. It's the story of Carlos The Jackal, and was discussed elsewhere on the forum.Three episodes, each the length of a movie - about 1:45 per installment.Really interesting, and enlightening. An inside look at how terrorism worked before the internet and computer background checks. People could move around the world pretty freely, it seems.Also answers some questions about how we got where we are now, all from the freedom fighter's perspective.As a side note, there are some truly striking German women in this thing...O and I watched it over three nights and loved it. It's in about five different languages, so subtitles aplenty. Also, can be complicated at times if you don't remember other historical events, and organizations, like the events in Munich, Entebee, the embargoes, OPEC, Black September, all of the crazy German activist groups of the 70's, and that people apparently smoked like there was no tomorrow back then.A great companion piece, also on Netflix streaming right now, is Baader-Meinhoff, about one of the bigger crazy German activist groups of the 70's. Ever wonder how everyday people with a liberal bent end up bombing banks? Here's your timeline.Movies about Internationalist Movement idealists might just be my thing right now. I lived though it as a kid, but my understanding of it was all just dudes got blowed up in Paris this week. These movies are making everything click for me right now - the puzzle is getting put together. I now understand what people were trying to accomplish, even though with available hindsight what I'm left with is a combination of you really thought this was going to help? and damn, what a mess you've left in your wake that we're still dealing with.Pretty fascinating.-A
