it's called hitting your stride. just right for bands that sound like they're off the rails in the best sense.

Bobby Strange (Naked Raygun)- I don't think I have to explain this one.

Steve Plouf (The Wipers)- A step down from even Brad Naish. Pretty much the same damn beat in every single song. No creativity. I love the Wipers, but the later albums with Steve are often a chore to listen to.

Almost every drummer rushes out of fills from time to time in a live setting when they get excited. Mac, Stanier, Traynor...Eric was prolly more excitable or more intoxicated or something. Or not as good as those guys, truth be told, but nevertheless - that beat on Dog at Large was pretty boss. And you gotta love the reverse fill that launches the band into the main part of "Vanilla Blue."

I also don't care for the implication that Brad Naish wasn't an excellent drummer for the Wipers. Greg sage refers to him as "hypnotic" in the re-release notes, and I agree. Those really long songs on Youth of America? He's just perfect. Also, one of my favorite stolen drum ideas was his - entering a song or leading into a part by simply flamming the snare on the four then resting until the one. GOLD. I also love how he plows through "Now is the Time." His time-keeping is good. The only thing that isn't great is the recorded sound of his kit.

There's some awesome drumming on Daydream Nation. He hasn't really done anything as remarkable since, but neither have any of them.I'm sure the original Gary Numan drummer has been mentioned by now, but damn that dude can barely keep it together.

The drummers in pearl jam were really awfulI like this record and I know they were kids and all, but the drummer on Carcass' Reek of Putrefaction well... he doesn't play very well.Also, not a big fan of Bill Bruford, but for different reasons.
