I've lost a few bucks on plenty of gear but $100 here or there for something that I spent years using and enjoying is well worth it in my book.Absolutely. From an economics standpoint, you got utility out of it. That's money well spent. In a weird way, when I see a "closet classic" guitar or amp that is older than I am and is completely unscathed, I get both elated and disheartened. It's awesome to see that they took care of it, but sweet fucking christ, why didn't you play it harder? I'd rather buy a beat to shit vintage piece of gear that sounds beautiful than someone's thirty year old "clean as a whistle" treasure. What's the point of buying an instrument and not putting it through it's paces? You only live once, might as well leave your mark.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/221 ... n=7607f480Looks like they're gonna be making a pedal version of the Meat Smoke and Skyhammer preamp sections, with a discounted preorder via Kickstarter.I do a lot of my touring via plane and borrowing gear, and I think I'm going to have to pick this up. Might make a nice tube driven alternative to the Rusty Box.

Might make a nice tube driven alternative to the Rusty Box.So much more expensive though, christ.$500 (or the $700 retail) might seem like a lot, but it's a hand built pedal using three pre-amp tubes and high quality parts. I compare it more to the Alembic F1-X or F2-B pre-amps, which new cost over a grand.Yes but the alembics core audience is jazz fusion wankers who rub snake oil up their asshole before every gig because stanley clarke told them to (sorry, I'm sure their pre amps are actually good).
