Micro-reviews of gear you just bought.
11Manlius pickups recently installed into my Gibson Les Paul (Fat Diane bridge, Landmark PAF neck):I've owned this guitar for 14 years and in all that time I never fully realized the potential it had until I took a gamble and picked up these two humbuckers. When I bought it, it had a Seymour Duncan Distortion in the bridge and a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates in the neck. I swapped these for a Gibson 490T in the bridge and later a GFS Mean 90 in the neck. This was a huge step in the right direction. But I must say that these Manlius pickups just blow them all away. The Fat Diane is directly based on a PAF pickup out of a 1960 Gibson ES-335. It has the vintage type sound you'd expect, but with a bit more balls and with no unwanted feedback or squealing, even at the highest volume and gain settings. The Landmark is also based on an original PAF pickup. This one has a slightly more mellow sound which balances nicely with the Fat Diane. Big, full sound out of this pickup, sounds awesome for power chording with the slightest hint of crunch, and notes up high on the neck sound super sweet and will sustain forever. These are handwound by Mick at Manlius, both were in my mailbox within five business days of placing my order, and the set cost me less than $200 with shipping. Recommended.
