I mean, don't get me wrong - Jeremy, Once etc, all a bit goat voice, but I just can't understand the hate. They are just like a really good classic rock band to my ears. I hear a huge amount of Creedence, The Who and Young Neil. And they have a bunch of great songs. I don't listen to them as much as I used to, but this weekend I put a few of their 'jams' on, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Yes, they have certain traits that make them an easy target for mockery, but then again, so do cheap trick and sabbath, and no one has a bad word to say about those guys, and they have some completely sad aspects. It's unfair.

I haven't listened to PJ enough to even care. Someone gave me copies of Ten, VS, Vitalogy back in the day. I played the first two before shelving them permanently. Never even bothered with Vitalogy. They aren't even on my radar at this point. I'm sure there's always worse, though.

Last week at Stewart Lee, I went for a piss about ten minutes before the end and, since the gig wasn't quite over when I got back, decided to wait in the front bar rather than wade through the crowd again. There was one other person milling around. Should have known what to expect from the combination of haughty demeanour and unwillingness to let me hear the rest of the set. First, he asked what I thought of the performance, and when I said I'd enjoyed it, he said comedy had sucked ever since Bill Hicks died and that Stewart Lee was a "populist" playing to an audience of "Jeremies".
