This is one thing that Jawbox always did incredibly well, while many others they get lumped with (noise rock, post-punk) treated melody with scorn or contempt. No matter how abrasive or dissonant the music is, Robbins always finds a way to thread a compelling vocal melody through it. (And how he plays those parts and sings at the same time is completely beyond me.)

Even the people I know who are super into his stuff are usually a little 'meh' about that one.I haven't listened yet, but that does surprise me. The full-length has always struck me as very awkward and forced-sounding, Now we are being Political in an unambiguous way. The Channels EP is great, though. (Of course they took the worst song off it to re-record for the full-length.)

And I love FYOSS as well, but I think the s/t is the best recording. The recording is... different... but i've never thought of it as bad. The stuff that took me a long time to get into was the early stuff, maybe because I worked backwards.Love all the singles and rarities too.
Yes it's true, I am made from atoms.

I listened to For Your Own Special Sweetheart many years ago when I was trying to get into weirder punk, like Fugazi and Quicksand and Refused and all that. Literally can't remember anything except Savory, which is a fucking killer song.Jawbox is also a really awesome band name.I'll say Not Crap, but I think I really need to revisit this band to either solidify my opinion or prove it wrong. Should I go for FYOSS, or should I check out something else, PRFers?

I was actually pretty keen on that tune.
