My bolt on is significantly lighter than my EGC's.Yeah, the T-60 is a really lovely body shape though, it goes well with the aluminium neck. If it was a bit lighter it'd be unbeatable. The only other body shape that I prefer over this one is that of a TB1000. So I guess I should just sell the neck and buy an actual EGC, which will probably happen when the guitar finally breaks my back.

A little more than a year ago, I bought FM Jon M's EGC bolt-on neck with a Peavey T-60 body made by FM Chris Jury (as seen here). While it is the best sounding guitar I own (sounds fucking huge and sustains for days, even makes a shitty Marshall Valvestate I have sound great), I have no idea how it sounds compared to a real EGC since I've never really come across one. I'd say one of the biggest differences between it and a real EGC is the weight; it's fucking heavy, but that has more to do with the Peavey T-60 body. The neck plays really nicely though.

I think the body plays a part too. Kevin wrote about it in an email to me but I can't seem to find it. The main difference I've noticed in the Bastin bolt-on neck compared to the EGC through body neck is that the EGC has a long resonance that the Bastin doesn't have. I don't think I can describe the sound very well but if you watch Agostino playing with Uzeda at the Touch & Go show you can hear how the notes sing with each other. (Chorus?) How much of that is Agostino (a lot, I imagine), how much of that is the neck through design and how much is due to extra mass of an all aluminum construction, I'm not sure. Those traits are less with the Bastin neck. There's still a lot of sustain and clarity, just with less chimey-ness.

I have one of the prototypes to the new bolt on Bastin necks, I had him put it on a Dipinto Los Straightjackets guitar, and then we did a bunch of other crap, but that's not my point really. I have played several EGC guitars, own an EGC bass and they compare well. The EGC that Luke Tweedy has is a thin profile, and has a bigsby... it sounds PRETTY similar to my Bastin, however they both have tremolo systems, so its not going to get the piano like sustain that you get from a hard tail EGC or even Matt's Bastin all aluminum tele like guitar... All the parts will effect the tone, and I am 100% happy with the Dipinto/Bastin/Talman/Wiseman guitar I have, I honestly prefer my Bastin neck to any thin EGC I have ever played... haven't spent enough time with the EGC thicker necks, but for the little time I got to play one, I was a pretty big fan. Long story short, I endorse the Bastin Necks, if he does another batch, I'll probably buy another one.

My Alef 25.5 neck arrived on Tuesday. Unfortunately the SX guitar it was intended for had different specs than I thought (SJM-62 vs. Liquid). So, I tried it on my Classic Vibe Tele. It's super cool! I'm no expert, but to my ears the biggest difference with the new neck is the increased prominence of the upper midrange frequencies. It's not necessarily better or worse than the tone with the stock maple neck, just a little different. Also, the resonance is insane. This guitar was already very resonant. With the Alef neck, open chords just ring and ring and ring.
