Band: Flipper Flipper?

In the same vein of No Trend ripped off Flipper and Flipper rips off PIL, there are just noticable similarities in music and attitude between these bands. Turns out it's a pretty great formula to draw influence from!Maybe some of the really early Pissed Jeans songs like Ugly Twin have a slightly Flipper-ish vibe, but I've always thought that they were way more energetic, not so druggy, a lot faster, and a good deal less fucked-up than Flipper. They sound like they practice and have large record collections. Whereas Flipper, at least prior to them becoming a karaoke machine after Will's death, was a lot more spontaneous and haphazard (in a great way).Sure, there are elements of that stuff, but you can hear just as many bits of other '80s underground bands (Stick Men w/Ray Guns, No Trend, Black Flag) on those first few Jeans records, as well as a fair amount of originality.

I find it a chore to listen to albums, even good ones so there's an excuse I guess.NOT CRAPthis is pretty confusing.. except the 'flipper fucken rules' part

There's nothing out there that resonates more with me. Nothing.I'd never get a tattoo, but sometimes I think about getting a Flipper tattoo.

I don't give too much of a shit about anything this band did after 1987, Yow recruitment included, even though the gigs I saw in 2006 were quite enjoyable. (Flipper's old peers, the Toiling Midgets, however, have had a far more musically compelling career trajectory.)But Jesus, I'd buy the crap out of a 3xLP box set of Flipper's unreleased 1982 studio session tapes if someone were to press them on vinyl. I suspect others around here might feel the same way. Come on, Steve DePace, you know what to do. And you'd make a little money, to boot.

My exposure to Flipper was when I saw them opening for The Melvins in 2006 and I wasn't sure, but I hadn't heard them properly beforehand. Once I did, I fell in love with their work. I love their work. Both albums and the singles from their golden era are untouchable. "Ha Ha Ha" in particular is the sound of being flushed straight down the fucking toilet. The never-ending bleakness underpinned with all those bongos, handclaps and xylophone overdubs is kinda the manic hysteria leading to a nervous breakdown. Wonderful stuff.NOT CRAP. AT. ALL.
