Many years ago, when my wife was too busy to plan out the garden, I put in nothing but tomatoes, lacinato kale and fresh herbs. The more you pick the kale, the faster it seems to come back. It's miraculous. Only leafy green that beats it is stinging nettles. You cook the nettles and squeeze them, and the juice runs black. So rich. All by itself, it tastes like it was braised in beef stock.
