New Twin 65 Reissue Running Hot!

1
Hey guys,I bought a brand new Twin reverb last week that seems to be running very hot. I noticed that it starts getting hot after an hour of use and only keeps on getting hotter. Not only does the top of the amp get hot but so does the front panel. I wouldn't say that it's hot enough to burn you but more like a sizzle if you were to push your knuckles against near the power indicator light for a few secs. I have owned quite a few tube amps in the past but I never noticed any of them being as hot as the twin. I compared the heat of the Twin to my Super Reverb and I would say that the Twin gets twice as hot as the Super.Does this seem normal? The whole reason I bought a new amp was because my last (used) amp gave me so many issues so I don't want to start having problems already. I'm guessing that the store wouldn't replace it with a new one but would instead send it to a tech which I would prefer avoiding since I paid for a new amp.I'm not an expert with amps so I would really appreciate your feedback!Cheers!

I'd have to check and see about how hot it gets, but there was an issue that was driving me insane until I found this you tube video explaining it; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2sS7yvbjQo&feature=youtu.be It's a slight but noticeable volume drop if you are using input 1 of channel 2 with the trem controls turned up a bit, but the tremolo turned off. Turns out it's just part of the circuit, so ultimately I'm fine with it, but before I knew that I was going mad trying to determine the cause. Just wanted to share in case you encounter the issue as well! Thanks man! I haven't used the tremelo much since I get a noticeable hum when the footswitch is plugged in but i'm guessing it's due to bad grounding. Do you also get a little pop when you engage the vibrato from the footswitch? I will check out the vid.

Most of my tube amps get HOT. But I have amps notorious for it: AC30, OR120 and I play them 3-4 hours at a time. Never bothered with a fan, never had many problems. I've owned a lot of Fenders and remember the power and standby switches getting almost too hot to touch. Transformers too. I don't remember the jewel light area, but it'd make sense since there is an incandescent bulb in there. It's new. I say let it melt down and it get covered under warranty when it does. Chasing maybes is a hard thankless road. I wouldn't be freaked out by it, but maybe others have opinions.

I would check to see if any power tubes are red-plating. If so, this mean that something is wrong; either with that specific tube, with the amp's bias, or something else in the power amp circuit. Here is a photo of a particularly bad example of a red-plating tube:Notice that it's not the glow from the tube heaters. It's the actual metal plate inside the power tube that is glowing red from heat.Fire up your amp, put the standby switch in the "play" position, and take a look in a room that's not too bright. If you see anything like this, take your amp back in. If this is the case, it's probably one bad tube, or a poor bias setting. Any dealer that sells new Fender stuff shouldn't give you any hassle.Good luck!
