Singularity by John Yingling, on FlickrTony Cheung is a madman! Singularity Fest rules! It's not easy to hold an art show of this size, & Guangzhou came out hard. There was a huge line stretching around the building all day, including when we got there, but it wasn't too long of a wait because they clearly had their shit together. I've never seen anything like this here. Too cool. Glad we bought tickets before we went. Killer day. See you at the SD Livehouse afterparty, Guangzhou!

dirtyfingers3G by John Yingling, on Flickr3 months ago, in what was either the dumbest, or best decision of my life, I quit my job. I started on tour with some of my favorite bands in China, and went from there to Japan, Indonesia, and all sorts of places in between. I went to something like 37 shows, across 4 countries, 13 cities. This is what's happened so far. Compiling this made me realize it was a lot. Thanks for your support with Episode 2, words of encouragement, sharing the things. It's going to be an interesting year, that's for damn sure. Tonight, I'll see Taiwan's US:WE in Guangzhou. Anyways. Have a read of these largely unedited, drunken, hungover dispatches from the road, as they happened. Take care out there. Cheers.http://www.theworldunderground.com/blog/2018/9/4/farewell-dongbei-3-months-in-china-japan-and-indonesia

Guigui by John Yingling, on FlickrWhat an absolute pleasure to see Guiguisuisui[鬼鬼祟祟] in Shenzhen the other day. I was heading south anyway, to get back to Indonesia via Hong Kong, so it was quite cosmic timing either way you slice it! The Guigui show has come so much further than the film I just released, and is now a duo. Epically cinematic, multiple costume changes, it's definitely, as self described, an experience. Kudos, folks. Such a nice night. It's not goodbye, but see you later. Tonight, I crawl around Jakarta with Yudhis and make my way back to Jogja for a spell tomorrow. Onward to the unknown!

Tony2 by John Yingling, on FlickrTony Cheung : To have such fervent support from you over the last years has been a dream come true, and I can't thank you enough. I'm so happy for your success. Every single person I show your work to freak out about it, and it just happened again in my house last night in Jogja. I ended up giving the guy a bunch of your stuff I was keeping for myself, because I just can't help it. You're gonna find that path forward, and crush it into oblivion. I can't wait to watch what's in store for the future. See you again soon, my friend. Photo : Singularity Fest, Guangzhou.

NUART1 by John Yingling, on FlickrNUART2 by John Yingling, on FlickrChange of plans. In lieu of the tour with Generacion Suicida, I've decided to go to Chengdu, China for this INSANE expanded festival called NUART! There are more reasons, too, but give me some time to drop that on you! This should be insane! You may remember me writing about this fest two years ago. Color me stoked as hell to catch Duck Fight Goose for the first time in FOUR years, Shao, Die Chiwawa Die!, Thruoutin, WHITE+, and a literal shit-ton of other stuff I have never even heard of. Multiple stages! Art! All the things! Hello, Sichuan province! I am in you now. Show me what you got!

NUARTkids by John Yingling, on FlickrWhite++ by John Yingling, on FlickrWhite+ @ NUART Fest. Been too long, boys! Day one is in the books. I cannot express how big, ambitious, and extremely well done this festival is. For a city like Chengdu, it matters all the more, as realistically, we are quite far out there in terms of the scope of China. The fact that there have been, *wood knock*, very little problems with you-know-who, historically, gives me a lot of hope. You have an entire block teeming with loud, outdoor music, art, all sorts of small vendors. Again, this really reminds me of all those days on Chicago streets, drinking beer and wandering through a ton of great stuff. I love this city. Duck Fight Goose from Shanghai headline tonight. I haven't seen them in four years! Cheers, Sichuan.

DFG2 by John Yingling, on FlickrDuck Fight Goose. In the year 3035, in the dust of WW5, some kid will find their latest LP, 未æ¥ä¿±ä¹éƒ¨ CLVB ZVKVNFT, in some demolished mega-city, and think it was really ahead of its time. Electronic jams were the name of the game today, from an old friend Brad M. Seippel's thruoutin, to Chengdu's Angry Navel, bouncing back and forth between the two stages at the opposite end of the street. A woman stood next to me during DFG. She said she never really goes to shows and was just curious. I went out to buy her and Brad a shot before it got rowdy, and they said we only have bottles. So it went, we, as a crowd, collectively hit and destroyed a whole bottle of Jameson during the set. Kristen Ng threw water on everyone and crowd-surfed, and all was well with the world. Today : Die Chiwawa Die! and SHAO! Final day.

Elec2 by John Yingling, on Flickrå´å“玲. Nuart Fest, Chengdu. I tried my best to pop over to the separated electronic stage, down the street, as much as I could. It made for some pretty mad dashes sometimes, but was always worth it. She's from Chengdu, and I saw her perform again today in a new series called Small Projects, that should continue thru the winter here. More on that in a bit. Still twisted from this festival! So much good stuff.
