Podcast: The Trap Set with Joe Wong The Trap Set

The most depressing line in the Damon Che podcast for me was: "I'd trade it all for a song as successful as Bow Wow Wow's 'I Want Candy', I'm trying of course to be humourous but I think even Thurston Moore would agree with me."The Mitchell Feldstein episode is good and doesn't outstay its welcome. For me, as a non-drummer, I would like to hear more about drumming in these drumming podcasts, rather than whether Damon Che thinks we're getting "more psychic, generally".

Do the drummers that listen to the Trap Set like this decision, or wish the pod was more technical in nature? The last one of these I listened to was the Phil Collins one. I enjoyed hearing Collins talk shit about Carl Palmer's playing. Prog Beef!Redline wrote:Joe Wong is a funny guy and a great drummer. Not Crap, even though I wish they would talk about drum sticks more.I still think that. I guess I can see where he wouldn't want to fall into the gear-nerd trap, but depending on the featured drumbo, it would be nice to hear about more idiosyncratic gear, like Bill Bruford's bent Zilco cymbal he used as a china type, Carl Palmer's drum set made of Paiste 2002 cymbal alloy, etc.

I'm not a technique nerd but I enjoy hearing about the physical connection that people have with their instruments. It's often a very distinctive part of their playing, and in some ways, it can be more revealing than talking about influences and tour stories and how everyone met, and the usual interview stuff.
