I was renting the Twin out and just paid it off since the interest was getting way too high. I spent more than 2 grand on the Twin so that's why I would like to work with the amp and see if I can get the muddy/harshness issue resolved

It seems like you've got the answer from the way you described the Super Reverb. One guy's take...That My Favorite Artist... stuff doesn't mean much if you just don't gel with a guitar or amp. I love plenty of guitar players who have played SGs and sounded amazing doing so. None of that is ever going to change that I feel like a guy with a fork in a world full of soup when someone puts an SG in my hands. Same thing with most Marshall amplifiers. Doesn't matter who has sounded great playing through them. The twin definitely has potential for the sound I'm after- Rock Punk/Psychedelic Rock/Cramps/Gun Club/Black Angels etc. I was just expecting it to sound less muddy and take pedals better. I was thinking that the amp might not sound great since it was all stock and that maybe this was a known issue where modifications could really help

I don't know how they did it, because every time I've played or heard one since, it hasn't seemed like what they did was possible. I'm convinced it's not reproducible.Never heard of this band before but just played some of their songs and they sound great!

Hi guys,I recently purchased a Twin Reverb 65 Reissue and i'm not too convinced with the tone. It sounds muddy but harsh at the same time, especially when using overdrive/fuzz pedals. Before purchasing the twin, I was using a Super Reverb 65 Reissue and it handled pedals really well and didn't have that annoying harsh sound.I'm looking for a punchy/fat sound with some nice low end without sounding muddy. Most of my fav artists use a twin and I have always loved the sound but this amp isn't sounding good. The Twin is all stock but I'm guessing a change of tubes wouldn't make a huge difference? I would rather not have to change the speakers since the amp was pretty expensive but I will if it helps achieve the sound i'm after. The guitar I'm using is a Fender Jazzmaster.Any recommendations? Thanks!

I think any twin by definition should not sound muddy and def should take boxes well.I do not know if you bought this used but did the person swap out the speakers. It is a common mod for folks who want blues tones to change out the speakers this can be used to get a more honky mids tone. The speakers should have a fender logo on them I think if they do not what are they?I have two twins one with the stock fender speakers (jensens?) and one with the EV or JBL PA style speakers both which keep the cleans the JBL speakers will do that all the way up to 10 in volume. So the speakers can have a lot to do with the response. If you do pull the two power tube mod look it up on the internet. I believe you have to pull the tubes in specific ways not two at random and you may have to pull the wires to one speaker out as well. As I understand this it will lower the volume but is used by foks trying to get distortion at lower volume.
