'Cause I'd love to have the sound of a tweed Deluxe but with enough power to be heard over a loud drummer.FM benadrian mostly nailed the 5E3 dissection but i'll add that a cathodyne phase inverter is a key element as well. You can preserve all of those elements and use a more powerful output tube like a 6L6, which is basically a 5E5 Pro, but you're only coming in at ~35-40 watts there. Doing a "double-deluxe" gets you in about the same ball field as well. Adding another appropriate speaker will help the perceived volume, as well. I've done a kit version of that before, but with all of the various inefficiencies combined it still was kinda just below what you'd need with a loud drummer.

The whole thing could be the size of a beer can. With an output transformer feeding both a little speaker and a line out, it could be a pedal, practice amp or tube sansamp dealie. Those tubes have a really long life, and are generally very rugged. Some were designed to be fired as ordinance, so they should be fine literally for the life of the owner.I've been thinking about this lately. The 12AU7 push-pull output would be cool but if you're doing a PP triode output I'd think you could just use more subminiatures. You could also do a dual PP pentodes out with 2 x EF86 or 2 subminiature pentodes. If you get your basic power supply and output section mapped out you could really make low wattage versions of all the classics.

My main amp (currently slightly fucked) is a clone of a Matchless which is kinda a clone of something like an AC12, with 2 12AX7s, a 7189 (become quite fond of these tubes, just got a Mullard) & GZ34 rectifier. I also have the MV50 AC, which is excellent (NuTube!). I do bi-amp with the MV50 Rock (amazing amp name), which has a decidedly Marshall vibe & I may be bonding with it the most. Never connected with Marshall-style amps before, particularly. Now I kinda get it/love it “  but still want a little slashing Vox treble to keep things a little vivid.I also like the Vox Pathfinder practice amps. The bass Pathfinder makes for a great guitar amp. Between the Pathfinder & my original amp (Yamaha G100) & some Orange stuff, I am something of a solid-state connoisseur. I like having solid-state in the chain, alongside the tube amps. Sounds a little more... Dimensional?Anyways, Vox-y amps are my jam of late. This came late in my life, actually. I never expected Telecasters & Vox amps would be my spirit animals for the twilight of my existence.
