Traynor YRM and YGL

2
Hey gang, I know this place is an online repository for Traynor talk. I've UTSF and found a little bit, but I wanted to see if I could get to the heart of the matter.I'm looking at picking up a Traynor YRM, but as these things go it's an online deal so I'll never have the pleasure of testing before buying.I'm a former YBA-3 custom owner- playing guitar not bass. That was going to be the amp I'd have until death. Played it for a decade, loved it. It was stolen out of my car. Those are hard to come by.I'm seeing a YRM (and a YGL) for sale. I loved the headroom, the rich low mids, and the ability to take pedals my YBA3 had. I'm seeing a YRM that's 50 watts which is fine. I never was able to use the YBA3 for all of it's crazy wattage.Opinions on these heads?

I've got a YRM and a YBA 1A, and use the YRM as my primary amp. It's a great clean pedal platform. In my playing, it seems my YRM has more prominent mid-range. My YBA-1 has a really booming low end even at really low volumes, and has a more ice-picky treble. I've found I can push my YRM pretty hard before it breaks up, and is typically easier to dial in tones that I like. It's reverb is pretty great too. Would recommend.

I haven t played a YRM or YGL but YBA1s are similar to YBA3 in terms of tone, except the YBA3 has a whole hell of a lot of head room and a stock master on some models. Note that the YBA1 stock still has a lot of clean power for guitar. If I wanted something like a YBA3 for guitar, that s what I d get. I miss those Traynors

Just when I decided I was sold on pulling the trigger, someone else picked up the YRM on Reverb. Was it one of you? Snooze you lose I guess. Still a YGL I'm considering because I'm normally a master volume guy, for those YBA1 fans on here, do you find you can dial in a clean, add an overdrive and/or boost without slamming the ceiling, gain-wise, too quickly?

Well dang, a YRM head made an appearance on Reverb this morning so I scooped it up for a pretty decent price. I'll be sure to post my experiences with it when it comes in, as per the differences between a YBA-3 and a YRM.I'm kind of looking forward to rocking a 50-watt after all of these years of 100-watt heads.

Got my YRM yesterday and put it through its paces today. I said I'd comment on its similarities/differences with my long lost YBA-3, but it's been a while. The 50 watts definitely packs a punch, even if it's not the crazy 130 watts of the YBA-3. It seems similar tone wise, maybe a little more focused into the mids as a guitar amp instead of a bass amp with a little less boom underneath. It can dial in crazy treble if you want with the 'treble boost' but you can roll it back without it sounding muffled. Just really good mids.I love the head room. It totally does the thing where you can click on an overdrive and it just bursts to life with tons more volume. Even with a lot of gain I can play all of my weird chords and hear all of the colors/overtones.This is working way better for me than my JCM800, which is master volume but just seems choked when plugged into the 'low sensitivity' side to try and get that head room for pedals. Also the 800 just had this pinched treble that wanted to be harsh no matter what I did with the presence knob and the treble knob.I'm pretty psyched on this YRM. Oh and the reverb is no joke. Very nice.
