The MD2 has a pod that changes the sensitivity of the capsule and it might sound a tad more open. I have used both of them as a pair for drum overheads and I bet that there are some vintage KM84s that sound further apart from each other than my MD1 and MD2. I have tried a lot of different 12AX7 and 12AY7 tubes in them which had a bigger influence on the sound than the different capsules.

Anyone have some thoughts on tom mics? For home recording I'm using ATM450s (side address condenser) because I have a bunch and they work ok. But I kinda want to try some dumb dynamic mics with a little more thud happening. Any go-tos or proven winners out there y'all are using? My general taste in drum sound is to get the bulk from OH and beef up where needed with close mics, if that helps. Anything that sounds like a more contemporary version of Doug Clifford would be in the ballpark I think.
