I had fun just reading that.I know he thought the Pyramid pickups in the Les Paul were a little compressed. But they were loud and goosed the pre-amp tubes, I'm sure.Beer for you!

Is it wrong that lately I've totally been wanting an Echoplex? I know they are completely impractical, but I played one recently and I have to say they are pretty rad.

If you want dark and murky the Carbon Copy will deliver. It wasn't for me. Much more preferred the old big box DMM. Spent some time recently borrowing a Chase Bliss Tonal Recall and it really has a lot of inspiration from the DMM minus the adjustable preamp. Plenty of options to tweak if you can get over the stomp switch proximity, though I can't.

I've always wanted to try a legit Memory Man Delay. I've got two Arion SAD-1 delays that I love. I don't even know if I'm using it like a proper delay but I just use it to melt the notes together and get predictable feedback. I'm tempted to spend sometime with a Carbon Copy to see how close I can get to the Arion. I'm thinking of swapping one for something a little more durable. Currently, I use it in a bypass loop on my board as it is both a little fragile and slightly dulls the signal. The other one goes with my synth gear, which is boxed up at the moment. If any of you guys know how this pedal sounds, what else comes close, in your experience? I'm really happy with how dark and murky it is. You can get some clock noise and some pitch drift in some settings, all of which I love. It is not bright nor spanky.

Ibanez AD9 reissue is really dark and lo fi. Much more so than a Carbon Copy. And much more so than a vintage AD-80. I bet it sounds very similar to those SAD-1s you have. It's hard to go wrong with a Carbon Copy though.

EDIT- It's a Hard Wire DL-8, I hope they make that pedal forever...I found one of these and its awesome. The slap back is real pingy and you get a little boost out of itI've owned a couple of AD-80 pedals. But this pic is the earlier narrow version, which I've never actually seen in the wild. You fellas both have the narrow one?! (note the side DC jack).Yeah, I have a skinny case, I can't tell much difference from the other front-jack AD 80. Maybe the side jack one is a little murkier-more tape sounding, but barely. It's a battery sucking side-jacked 18 volt beast, for sure. People say it's the best slap-back echo, but I like the EH Double Tracking Effect, even though it's so limited in features. I also like the Tar Babies and Bucky Pope used one for awhile.I had an Ibanez AD9, it sounded pretty similar, they may be way cheaper now. Everybody seems to like the MXR Carbon Copy, I never tried one. The Hard Wire DL-8 is great for a small digital delay that doesn't take up a lot of real estate on your pedal board. It can also delay forever.
