Someone gave me an EMT 140. Actually, we liberated it from the old Streeterville Studios in a story I won't go into just now. This was a mono tube driven one. I already had a stereo solid state one. I did a few checks on the tube amp, but nothing deep. Figured I'd give it whirl. Too lazy to get out the Variac and bring it up slow. Probably hadn't been on in over a decade.So I'm in Control and feeding some track to it and listening. It worked! Then it got a little fizzy. I started to wonder "hmmm...sounds a bit naff...maybe I should go look..." So I left Control thinking "I hope it doesn't blow" at which point I heard a resounding bang and found the office full of the most acrid white smoke you can imagine.OK then. Fuck me. Them big ol' PS caps can really stink up a joint.
