This is literally one of the biggest root causes of our social problems, if not the biggest.Motherfucker, don't you dare think you know a damn thing about me. I moved 23 times before I moved out on my own (at 17!) At top dollar best we were part of the lower working class, for the most part we were part of the working poor.I've been full on homeless before, and have drifted more. How dare you claim to know a thing about me and present it in such a haughty and dismissive manner. I said I was glad he was in the race, not that I was 100% endorsing all of his values and think gentrification is keen. What is fucking wrong with you?You know, you're absolutely right. I have no right to assume what your life has been like because I don't know you. I'm sorry about that.Having said that, from my perspective, this isn't about endorsing all of his values. This is about the fact that people like him, who put on a facade of progressivism while conveniently ignoring the fact that their bright, shiny ideas more often than not make vain, facetious, self-congratulatory cultural elites like him feel good at the expense of the oppressed people they pretend to care about, who, more often than not, end up worse off. People like him not only conceptualized but ran the boarding schools. I am sick and tired of these personality cults taking up space while the people who actually have a shred of empathy or genuine concern or any conception whatsoever of the effects of public policy on the most vulnerable among us fall by the wayside. I am sick and tired of self-congratulatory tumblr liberals (not saying you're one, I'm thinking more about the daily dose of social media) fawning over charismatic aristocrats who have one or two non-standard demographic traits as if they're going to magically save us all (actual politics be damned) while these delightfully charismatic shitbags in the Democratic party haven't done a goddamned thing for brown people in fifty years beyond hollow catchphrases and voter registration drives. My childhood was pretty similar to yours. Nothing but moving while jobs got chased, often cross-country, and the constant threat of eviction, then raising my siblings while the grownups were at work. I imagine you have your reasons for liking Pete, but liberals like him make me sick because people like him are why my childhood was as fucked up as it was.
