Steve's favorite Nirvana pressings

I think Butch is a great engineer and I respect his choices a lot, if that tells you anything. I think the original 1993 mix of In Utero is fine and the definitive version, and the best edition of that is definitely the 2x45 version. The 2013 version was done to satisfy the band's curiosity about what an alternate version would sound like, and it seemed like something the listening public would appreciate as well so it was released as a special edition. I like it, it's essentially the same record, but I think the one the band made in the flow of the sessions is the definitive one.Steve, first of all; let me tell you what an absolutely terrific job you did with the original mix. Dave's drum sound has never been equaled on anything on the Foo FIghters, let alone any other rock band's records. (Maybe Bonham. Maybe, but definitely not their remasters ) ''Would you mind if I picked your brain sometime? Your bands, and Nirvana inspired me at 11 years old to lock myself in a room and learn all the songs by ear, all the records, before tabs existed- let alone YouTube.Fast forward 23 years, I would love to record my songs with you, I know you're booked I'm sure. And I promise it won't be 100% Nirvana and Kurt questions. I'm sure it's beating a dead horse, but thanks for taking the time and not beating me up about asking. Is there a way I can reach you personally? If you could PM me, I would be grateful, I have some good songs and I think they deserve to be recorded by the best engineer in the world. (that's you, Steve). I'm not just here to kiss ass, but just to let you know your record changed me, and my life.. forever. That is a special thing. Nevermind did, but not as much. It didn't have that Burroughs drug fueled honesty and rage within the melodies. (not that I advocate drugs, but IMO thats what it came from.). Please, call me, PM me. and I want to leave something behind for my kids, that I actually recorded something because they think their dad (long distance divorce and relationship in the US) Living in SC, and them in IN, is tough. But before I do go someday, I want to do these songs/ideas justice. Not on a PC using garageband. Think about it. And again, thank you for your work, and your truth. X CheersMatt
