New Tarantino film. Caught a late showing last night. 80% of it was, at the core, a weirdly beautiful ode to friendship, I thought. And losers. An ode to a couple of fucking losers. Then things, uh, change. Not crap, major waffles. Better than the last couple movies he made, if only because it takes its time and lingers in ways that aren't super obvious. LA is still a gorgeous backdrop for film. The sun does something weird out there right around dusk.

I really enjoyed it a lot. I found The Hateful Eight to be unpleasant. This one had a real affection for its characters, and just letting them breathe- watching them do their thing. I liked that, and it's not something he's done since Jackie Brown. My favorite scene was Leo explaining the western novel he's reading to the little girl and breaking down in tears.I've never felt the need to call someone 'pumpkin puss' before!

I thought it was great, my favorite Tarantino since Basterds, and easily my favorite Leo performance to date. I knew there was going to be something w/ the ending so it was not totally unexpected, but I was surprised how much the first 2+ hours are just a hang with very little actual plot.NEW TARANTINO RANK1. Inglorious Basterds2. Pulp Fiction3. Jackie Brown4. Death Proof (either cut)5. Once Upon A Time...6. Reservoir Dogs 7. Kill Bill(s)8. Hateful Eight9. Django Unchained
