for a long time i did the same because i could only afford one :)
These guys were so good. Drummer was awesome. Played drums like I'd never really seen before at the point in my life. I played in a band that played a few shows with them on the East coast of Canada (where I'm from) some 20 years ago or so. The Redshift/Halifax 7" is awesome. Some of those dudes played in a band called Blake before that and one called Holding Pattern after that. (I think they had to eventually change their name?) Awesome stuff. I mean, I like it and still spin that stuff.

Sorry if I'm derailing this thread. I was just so excited to see this.

Also for what it's worth. I played a lot of gigs with some AA 14" hats and AA 20" Ride. The not shiny ones. I liked them well enough that I kept them and still use them for recording and live regularly. Maybe I'm just used to them.
yeah. he definitely had his own style. it was as if he learned how to play drums without ever using a hi hat. lots of strange rolling snare patterns for the verses then crashing on that one cymbal for the chorus.

everyone in that band was incredible. bass player was filthy but smooth. singer had a great voice and kept it simple. remember being absolutely floored the first time i saw them.

But speaking of the east coast, I officially adopted the one-cymbal move after I saw North of America a few years ago, roughly the same time I was needing to go cymbal shopping. Plus there was Kurt Dahle out west. It's a Canadian thing!
Have we talked about North of America? I helped them book shows in the late 90s in Indiana, and have been great pals with their drummer/guitarist (Michael Catano) every since. He was also in "The Plan". He also brought "Wooden Stars" to Indiana as well.

Later, he went on to making bicycle frames https://www.humbleframeworks.cc/

Anyway, NoA is/was great and I have nothing but good things to say about them :)
