I'm not sure if we did this before the great forum collapse, but I don't mean "This bit of this song sounds a bit like such-and-such". More a case of a song sounding so much like another artist that you might think it a cover of one of their songs.

Every so often one pops up for me and I'm intrigued by them. One of my favourites is TLC's Waterfalls, which when played at 33 1/3 is surely a Prince demo.

Seeing Other People by Belle and Sebastian could easily be Donovan.

Ween has a few songs like this:

I think with Ween it's to some degree intentional. Some bands pay homage brilliantly. Brian Jonestown Massacre in their earlier years did this as well. Newcombe can sound uncannily like Robert Smith (The Cure), Springsteen, Bowie, probably others.

I was playing something the other day at the wrong speed (33, should have been 45) but at 33rpm the music sounded almost exactly like The Misfits "Come Back." I think it was a 12" from Eddy Current Suppression Ring...that was weird.
