Hmm, it sounds like a canned sample, revised 808 type of sound. So there could be some square wave element to it, but it doesn't sound all grindy like a distorted kick drum. Pretty clean little pulse.

Quite a makeout jam, this one.
Aight, thanks.

What about this one? I thought it was a more clear case, but given the above I'm thinking maybe I'm just oversensitive to slight off sounds like that.

Tired question I'm sure, but how much is too much money for an overdrive pedal? I haven't bought one in quite a while, but lately have been eyeballing the Hudson Electronics Broadcast. The price, though... feels excessive for whatever reason.

That said, I'm not sure why it seems more reasonable to me that a digital pedal (reverb, delay, whatever) can cost upwards of $300 (or more). Perhaps the perception that you're getting more out of it? I'm not much of a pedal/gear junky these days, so I don't run into this dilemma often. I guess the bug has hit me a bit and I've been doing some shopping.

OK, picture a smallish tool shed in the woods with no electricity.

Is there a decent option for a solar-powered LED lamp or lights?
It wouldn't need to provide light for hours and hours and hours -- and it's a small shed.

Aren't there things like this for lighting walkways and stuff?
Recommend me a small-scale lighting solution that doesn't need replacing batteries or USB charging or whatever. Please.

Spooky! I just found myself in an identical position. I sold a Deluxe Memory Man (the 550-TT model...just didn't get on with it), and was hankering for something Germanium. I ended up getting a dual-footswitch Hudson Broadcast. I debated with myself internally for a while, as it's easily the most I've ever spent on a dirt pedal...and (slightly giddy, early-days opinion) it's fantastic.

I've got plenty of cheaper drives/fuzzes. I've built a ton of DIY kits and veroboard jobs, had fun building them, and saved myself some cash along the way. Would I spend this much on a drive pedal again? I don't know...it would have to fill a specific need, and do it better than anything I could otherwise put together myself. The Broadcast? Well, it does the volume knob clean-up thing as well as any Ge Fuzz Face I've ever tried, and it's low gain mode has already turned into one of those "just-leave-it-on-permanently" sounds for me. Build-quality seems very solid, and I love the aesthetic, too. For me this one is deinitely in the "worth it" camp, but I would probably think longer and harder if it was a boutique take on something a little more ubiquitous, like a TS or a Muff.

I talk disjointed music-related guff over here. You're welcome.

Yeah and Ebay. I often check new prices for stuff via Ebay and Google at the same time and every time without fail the stuff on ebay is more expensive. Like even 2nd hand stuff can be more expensive than new from a dealer. With a warranty. I don't get it. Do people who use Ebay not know how to search for stuff?

To be clear, you’re trying to light the inside of the shed? A solar pathway light won’t do you much good in that case unless you’re carrying it inside with you.

It's an extremely overused practice to use a lot of saturation (distortion) to extend the tonal quality of a kick drum these days, mostly because adding all the upper harmonic content from the saturation actually allows you to actually hear the kick on earbuds and iPhone speakers as something other than a click, so "producers (read as anyone with Logic and a TikTok account ) are just putting all their programed drums through Saturn, Decapitator, or what ever other distortion plug they have. If you look on the market for plugs that provide "analog fatness" or "really give you that PHAT ANALOG Surrrrrnd!!!" They are just distortion plugins. All they do is clip and add harmonic distortion. And are pretty much only being marked to people with 808 samples along side midi chord packs.
