Maybe people just stopped listening.
I don't know that they ever started. Ridiculous, particularly given what I've found to be a very sensible national character otherwise.
I will air a grievance related to this.

If given a choice that includes being courteous to others, a very significant portion of the population of the USA will actually go out of their way to do the opposite, even if it's illogical, just because they don't like being told what to do. I cannot stand this. (I fully realize that not everyone on the PRF lives in the USA.)
Yeah, I mean it's not just courtesy to to others (although we are shit at that), we needed strict seatbelt laws because people just hate being told what to do.

I hate when people expect everything in media to be artificial and perfect and hyped to the point of abstraction. Every time I see a movie where people talk like normal people do, it gets panned for bad acting. Or when characters with severe trauma act precisely the ways people with severe trauma do, people complain how it's totally unrealistic and "does little for character development."

They dubbed over the real audio from the rocketbelt at the beginning of Thunderball with a fire extinguisher because people complained it didn't sound realistic enough. Probably the most accurate thing ever was when Zoidberg's uncle directed that film with Calculon. The extreme acting that he demanded is precisely what people want from media or they cant process it.

You are not allowed to take a lazy corner when turning left such that you encroach in the place I'm coming to stop. Drive a little deeper in the intersection before you turn. Street driving ain't F1 and you're not looking to hit the apex on every corner. Jerk.

Along the same lines, those of you that find it necessary to drive ridiculous big trucks and SUV's, could you please look down once in a while, instead of out across the expansive bonnet of your stupid huge truck? Some of your fellow road users are on motorcycles or tiny cars like the kind I favor. I can't tell you how many times some dufus has almost wiped me out when I'm driving my Sprite or Miata. Last year I was gassing up the Miata and dumbass in his too big truck backed out of his parking place, stove in the passenger side door and started leaving. I had to chase him down. He didn't even realize he hit me. His hitch punched a hole in the door skin about 3 inches from the bottom of the window. Three weeks later some dumbfuck in a too big truck couldn't control coming to stop and rear ended my wife. Four weeks after that some cocksocket was driving his too big truck in a parking lot my MIL was parked in and he took off the whole front clip of her car. Less than 2 months and over $20k of damage to 3 vehicles because of brain dead too big truck drivers.
You have pix of your Sprite?

It's easy to make. What's the problem? Or did Karen get mad because you didn't have the ingredients?
It's what EVERY woman in their early 20s to their mid 30s drinks. Seriously. I can profile a drinker's beverage before they even order something and on a good night, I'll even make it before they ask for it. I don't know why they act surprised.

Ok, not every. But a sizeable enough group as to make a blanket statement with a fair degree of accuracy. I mean, let me make you something fun. I can take a little port wine with some limoncello, bitters, soda and some fruit and you'd never talk to vodka soda again.

I love hearing anecdotes/stories/grievances from anyone who works in bars. Please keep going.
SWEET MERCIFUL FUCKING CHRISTMAS, when it's 4 deep busy and there are tickets rolling off the printer like it's stuck in the "feed" position and I've just popped another keg that I'm going to have to run downstairs to change and I finally get to you, please don't ask me "What IPAs do you have?" HOLY FUCK, you've had all of 15 minutes to stare at the tap line and come up with a choice. I lost it a little on someone last night that did this exact thing. My time is precious, and when we're swamped it's no time to be picky. Have a little fucking situational awareness, Jeremy.

Prior to the pandemic, I traveled twice a month for 15 years and frequented countless bars. I've witnessed plenty of things that have understandably irritated barstaff. The one thing I have been guilty of as a solo traveler is trying to engage bartenders in conversation when they are busy. Sorry about that.
As much as I enjoy the great conversations with 100% strangers that can be a large part of bartending, when I'm in the weeds it's all I can do to keep it together. I'm already possessed of questionable attentiveness, so when I lose my concentration things can get dangerously close to breakdown.

I've been there. People have no idea what it takes just to keep things on an even keel, especially drunk people. But they'll stare at what you're doing while they wait as if under some magician's spell, seeing exactly how snowed under you are and how fast you're actually pulling all this shit off, then act like it's a slow Tuesday when it's their turn to get served.
