I like them in jazz, unless they are too chop-y (Buddy Rich wannabes, psychos who get -inspired- by Whiplash..) or arty farty 'rubbing a snare drum with a feather' stuff (Glenn Kotche).

Anything in rock music more than an 8 bar break is CRAP. Even Bonham couldn't make them cool.

The thing with drum solos is that unlike other solos everybody else has to stop playing. This makes them crap. In jazz, it is usually the same with bass solos since upright bass is so quiet. Therefore bass solos in jazz are also crap (with veeery few exceptions like the Ron Carter live album 'Carnival').

the reason fast forward was invented.

Been playing drums for 46 years now. Hate most of them. Hated having to play them in school jazz band shows. Waffles for Max Roach or Elvin Jones who could make something akin to music with 4 pieces, instead of Neil Peart/Stew Copeland crazy wankfest kits. Fuck that shit. Even Moby Dick sucks and I generally like Bonham, and all my Deadhead history told me "space/drums" would always be the worst part of the show.
