It's rather comical for sure. It makes me want to see a group of North Korean kids performing it in one of the massive accordion ensembles they seem to have over there.jason from volo wrote: Thu Aug 05, 2021 8:20 amTwo thoughts:
1) I can just see this as the perfect background music for some cartoon-y animals or children running around and doing stupid stuff.
2) Off-thread, but this makes me want to find an oompah band cover of this piece.
Re: Instrument: harmonica
12I'm all waffles on this one.
In the typical rock/blues/folk context I tend to find it pretty annoying. Yes, even in the Wizard.
But then... the heavy, reedy sound of the bass harmonica in Beach Boys/Dennis Wilson tracks is trippy and sounds totally awesome.
If we're talking about creepy giallo vibes; a la Once Upon a Time in the West, again totally awesome.
COOL, but yeah, waffles.

DIY and die anyway.
Re: Instrument: harmonica
13I'm afraid my gig doesn't afford me much opportunity for anything other than pentatonic noodling. I did pick up a chromatic harp and have been working on more precision playing than just drawn out trills and money notes.

15The late 60s were a golden age for harmonicas in film:
I also appreciate the Bob Dylan and Neil Young's rudimentary harmonica stylings, which apparently necessitated jackets with a small pocket for every key:

16The "Filth Pig" album by Ministry also has some well manipulated harp.
DIY and die anyway.
