Many may have had agency. Only they know, with 20/20 hindsight, whether they did or not.
I think you also have to keep in mind a lot of these girls do have crushes on their favs, do idealize them, do want Damon Albarn to be their be their boyfriend, and do think maybe this is their shot. It just seems kinda shitty to know this and use them for temporary sexual gratification anyway. Lots of bands don't.
I'm sorry but this idea that the typical groupie was this savy, invulnerable conqueresses was a convenient myth created by writers for Rolling Stone and NME, who would also have been backstage.
