Japanese bands?

If you like Ruins, do a quick search for 'Magaibitsu' - it's a label run by Tetsuya Yoshida and covers all of his Ruins work and a multitude of other projects.

Ditto most of the other stuff mentioned in previous posts - especially the mighty Boredoms.

However, my personal faves are Pop-Off Tuesday. Very psychedelic, off kilter, cut-up based stuff with woozy japan pop melodies. They release on Pickled Egg records in the UK but may have other deals in other countries.

There's a band called 54-71, that Bob Weston recorded, I believe; has played the Empty Bottle a few times over the years. I also recommend, NumberGirl, who has played the Fireside a few times and records with Dave Fridmann of Mercury Rev, but has since broken up..and then Zazen Boys who is fronted by the same guy that used to front NumberGirl. Bloodthirsty Butchers is another pretty good band..and then the mellow bands like Clammbon, Polaris, Kicell are great too!!
