A friend use to build these for fun. I don't think they are for the faint of heart though. You will be dealing with mains power that could kill you but if you have the skills then go for it. Let us know your results in the future please.

I have 4 SCA preamp modules in the 8x case (ie: I have room for 4 more). I started around ‘04 or ‘05 with just a single 72 style pre, and later added another neve clone and two millennia style pres. The Neves are nice, I use them on kick and snare. I use the millennia ones on toms and they are clean and do the job. I can’t imagine I’d hear a difference between the millennia and my onboard pres on the focusrite interface on two dumb tom toms, but it was as easy to use them than not.

IIRC I had a short when I built the first Neve and had to send it back for repair, for a small charge. The other 3 I didn’t fuck up.

Back in 04 there wasn’t that whole 500 series stuff happening, so the SCA modularity seemed pretty cool. But if I were doing it now I’d definitely consider the 500 series instead.

Tim at SCA is brilliant and has, at least in the past, been really responsive, both online and thru email.

Not sure who you went with, but some plants are even longer. Much longer. I just put a deposit down that is expecting a 6-7 month turnaround, but my lacquer guy said many places are over a year at the moment. So yeah, that's the situation right now.

Also, fuck record store day at this point for all the completely redundant and pointless reissues that they crank out. It's so fucking dumb, it clogs up the whole works, and it's incredibly wasteful. Out of 100 RSD releases, maybe 5 are relevant.

I have one like that (mahogany, pictured on first page of 'show us your guitars' thread) but I fancy something else I guess. I actually just want a Jazzmaster, but I'm too scared.

Jazzmaster/Jaguar is an obvious answer, but I'm a bit put off by the need to baby them, set-up hassle, short sustain, bridge hassle etc. Budget depends on how excited I am about whatever the best guitar option is.

Thanks in advance!
Yo! I've got a Jazzmaster w/ a Bigsby on it that I'm currently selling. No JM trem issues, bridge is a TOM-style deal, so it works. Hit me up if you're curious.
