Haven't seen it. I wanted to, but a good friend said that they haven't hated a movie that strongly in a long time. Yikes. Kind of a bummer as I don't mind James Wan. Still a fan of Insidious. Hoping for something really strong from him, but thus far it's been unlikely.

Looking for recs in the vein of the supernatural/haunted houses. Those are my go-to subgenres, but I haven't been thrilled by much lately. The Night House was really good. It was myy first exposure to Rebecca Hall who was just phenomenal, but aside from that I've been rewatching The Dark and the Wicked and His House. I watched Martyr's Lane a week or so ago. It was OK, but I need something intensely terrifying and bleak to truly sate my horror jones.

Thinking of rewatching Evil Things tonight. I saw it ages ago and remember liking it, but feel like another watch is in order. YMMV depending on how one feels about found footage films. This one has a lot going on, switching gears a couple of times, but I recall it creeping me out sufficiently.

It was really that abhorrent. I have no idea why it's getting such good reviews.
We're headed for social anarchy when people start pissing on bookstores.

^ not familiar with this one. Thanks for the lead.

Watched V/H/S/94 last night. I was into the first two and hated the third. Expectations were low going in, but it's a good flick. I'd even argue that it's the best installment. The practical effects and gore are extraordinary. Normally gore isn't the first thing I look for in horror, but I was gobsmacked by how gruesome a lot of the sequences are, particularly The Subject by Timo Tjahjanto. Placed right in the middle it's a bonkers body horror tale that at times resembles a first-person shooter. It's also the only chapter that evokes pathos and empathy for its unfortunate victim/monster. The movie's only misstep was its last chapter, Terror, about a militia planning to unleash some type of bomb or creature or something to save the white race. I was confused by most of it. It also felt out of place. Aside from that, buckle-in for a weird, gory, and ultra-violent ride.
