G&L SC-2, maybe?Adam_I_III wrote: Wed Sep 22, 2021 1:49 pm Please recommend to me a guitar with two single coils and a useable trem.
Jazzmaster/Jaguar is an obvious answer, but I'm a bit put off by the need to baby them, set-up hassle, short sustain, bridge hassle etc. Budget depends on how excited I am about whatever the best guitar option is.
Thanks in advance!

322Thanks! I'm on the wrong side of the Atlantic unfortunately!four_oclocker_2.2 wrote: Wed Sep 22, 2021 3:55 pmYo! I've got a Jazzmaster w/ a Bigsby on it that I'm currently selling. No JM trem issues, bridge is a TOM-style deal, so it works. Hit me up if you're curious.Adam_I_III wrote: Wed Sep 22, 2021 1:49 pm Please recommend to me a guitar with two single coils and a useable trem.

Love those. Excellent suggestion. Did not notice they have trems.brephophagist wrote: Wed Sep 22, 2021 4:00 pmG&L SC-2, maybe?Adam_I_III wrote: Wed Sep 22, 2021 1:49 pm Please recommend to me a guitar with two single coils and a useable trem.

Ah, not available in the UK it seems. Sad.

323A Strat with a 2-point trem. Avoid the vintage style with 6 screws. I personally think G&L have the smoothest operating 2-point.Adam_I_III wrote: Wed Sep 22, 2021 1:49 pm Please recommend to me a guitar with two single coils and a useable trem.

I'm a weirdo that actually liked the Fender Mustang trem, but I've only ever owned vintage instruments (can't speak to the reissue part). They're great with 11s. I wouldn't use anything lighter with them though.
It should be noted that all of these need to be set up correctly. They aren't fussy once you have (if you stick to the same string type/gauges).

324Is there such a thing as a hardware upward expander?

325Do you mean like the Eventide Omnipressor?
Here's a link to the Eventide page for the software to get an idea if it's what you're referring to. It was originally a harware piece, now you have to search a little harder for info on the hardware because the search results all want to show you the software.

326^ Yeah that might be a little out of my price range. Thanks though. : )

327Yeah they're not cheap, and at the age they are now, you'd be worried about it failing at any moment.Mickey242 wrote: Sat Sep 25, 2021 7:02 pm ^ Yeah that might be a little out of my price range. Thanks though. : )
I'm not really aware of anything else in hardware that does it. The software can be absolutely brutal though.

Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
328Absolutely. Just like a limiter is basically a compressor with a very high ratio, a gate is a severe type of expander. Usually these will be listed as "expander/gate." Most often they are built with the live sound tech in mind in order to cut out noise from mics when they aren't being used like rack toms or vocal mics...so you will often find these with two or four units in one rack which may be overkill for whatever it is you're trying to do. DBX made them along w/ Behringer, Aphex, etc.Mickey242 wrote:Is there such a thing as a hardware upward expander?
There's an Ashly SC-33 on Reverb right now that looks like it has enough control to do legit expansion and not completely kill your wallet like an Omnipressor.
Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
329I think they’re referring to a device that increases gain by a ratio, e.g. 1:3, when the signal level goes above the threshold. An “inverse” compressor, essentially. I’ve seen compressors with inverse ratios, though I can’t recall any off the top of my head. I’d check all the usual suspects…dbx, Ashly, Aphex, Drawmer, BSS, etc etc.
Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
330Yeah, you're right - that Ashly does have some control that might get them close (that fade control is specifically what I was thinking), but yeah would still probably "chop" coming in. Not sure what the "floor" control does...I would think that would be like a threshold...but there's already a dedicated knob for that. What you really want is to be able to control the ratio.
I think this Aphex 622 is more what the OP is looking for.
