Japanese bands?

I saw FUSHITSUSHA in Chicago several years ago. My face was slayed, and I think my spirit left my body for a few seconds.

Another loud / sheets of noise band I like, Kousokuya, has a fine live cd on Forced Exposure titled Ray Night. Stumbling feedback drenched psychedelic goodness, with Meow meow female vocals...HOT...

I still like the Ex Girl lp, too.

I passed up a chance to see these guys unfortunately. They are very good and I know Aquarius Records has a bunch of stuff of theirs in stock.

AD thanks for the link. Me and my drummer were at the Death From Above 1979 show at SXSW, standing next to a wild-haired Japanese dude. We talked to him a bit between songs. He said, "You should come see my band tomorrow night. We are DMBQ. We're pretty good."

Fuck he wasn't kidding. They set the place on fire. I felt pretty bad for the band that followed them, though. How does one follow a set full of insanely loud/heavy/psychedelic rock during which the singer at one point thows up on his mic , the guitar player does possessed google-eyes every time he plays a solo while occassionally holding his guitar by his teeth, and the band ends the set by hanging all the instruments from the rafters? Fucked if the band that followed DMBQ knew.
If it wasn't for landlords, there would have been no Karl Marx.

Does anyone know some other bands like these?

Teengenerate: japanese punk rock, compared to the ramones alot

Guitar Wolf: Stooges/Thunders type of deal. Jet Generation is a rad album

The Boredoms: I'm more partial to their earlier (Pop Tatari) work, but it's all pretty solid

High Rise: think Jimi Hendrix meets The Boredoms/Melt Banana. Fuckin' great.

i will also recommend DMBQ. saw them a few weeks ago -- best show i've seen in a while. toward the end of the set, singer put on a gas mask, stuff mic inside it, then wrapped duct tape around and around his head. the band then passed most of the drum kit out to the crowd piece by piece, the crowd did stupid shit with it, then the drummer set up the drums in the middle of the room and they jammed for about 5 or 10 more minutes.

i've seen melt banana a handful of times over the past 4 years and always enjoyed them. then i saw them last weekend and thought "meh."

another good japanese band with a huge catalog to sift through is acid mothers temple. i like them a lot, but sometimes it's tough to know what to expect from any given release without hearing it first.

i like ufo or die a lot

i like hanatarash a lot

Has anyone mentioned 'Melt Banana'?
I saw them at ATP a few years ago, they were nice, very nice indeed.

yes, nice people, good band

when we toured over there, in addition to playing the requisite m.b. show, we played with other really good bands

--25m floater are sort of a gbv/cheap trick-type pop band w/o being slavish about it. they have this one song in particular, the first song on their newest record , that is just brutally catchy. i already ripped it off.

--detroit seven are a vaguely psychedelic rhythm-heavy rock band with a really good female guitarist/singer. very engaging live.

--the best band we played with was meat eaters (also the best band name). this guy junpei is a total knockout guitarist. really unhinged, inventive, crazy, catchy rock music. i would say it sounded like people say the pixies sound, except that meat eaters are an original band and maybe nine times better than the pixies. i would say it sounded like people say nirvana sounds, except it was less heavy, way more unhinged, and the guitar playing was a lot more nuts. i like their album 'so messed up' a lot.
