13Eyeing a new 2021 MIA Fender Precision. I’ve been playing a high-end 2009 MIM Precision for 12 years, and it has served me well. Upgrade the old, or buy the new?
Re: Gear talk: TALK ME OUT OF IT
14New American made Fenders are overpriced. Put a Badass Bridge and a Fralin pick-up in the one you have.
It will sound better than a stock American.

15I think the #1 thing is getting your hands on it and playing it. If you have the $ and fall in love (and I don't mean lust), then get it.Dave N. wrote: Sat Oct 23, 2021 8:21 pm Eyeing a new 2021 MIA Fender Precision. Beyond that, what are you hoping to get out of a newer, more expensive but almost the same P-bass? Is there anything being missed or lacking on your existing one?
Re: Gear talk: TALK ME OUT OF IT
16+100. A good tech is so worth it. I more or less know what I'm doing as far as a basic guitar set up, but my tech is just soooo much better, everything comes back feeling so much nicer than I'd be able to do. If you haven't had your bass setup in awhile, spend the 80 bucks or whatever, you'll be delighted.jason from volo wrote: Sat Oct 23, 2021 8:35 pm I had someone else set it up ... it made such a huge difference.
If it were me, I'd keep the P you have a 12 year history with and get something else, most likely a J. Or just save the dough. Money in the bank is nice.

17Considering selling my EGC Acrylic Chessie.
It rules and I love it a lot, but having an almost 11 lbs guitar on my shoulder for an hour does take a toll on my shitty back. I am pretty sure I could sell it and with the money get a nice Les Paul Standard AND a cool Telecaster and maybe cover more sonic ground. Why have one great guitar when I can have two great guitars?

18A Les Paul Standard isn't much lighter, maybe a pound less. Some version of a 335 type body might be closer to what you've been playing on, and will probably be lighter than your Chessie or a Les Paul. Or if you really want a humbucker guitar that won't wear you down look at a double cutaway, SG or some other.Owen wrote: Sun Oct 24, 2021 1:34 pm Considering selling my EGC Acrylic Chessie.

I haven't watched the used market for EGC but it seems like a lot of the boutique company's instruments are harder to sell. It looks like some folks on Reverb have had to wait a while and/or drop their prices below what they probably invested in the first place.
I might keep such a unique instrument and get a lighter, cheaper player guitar. I'm a firm believer that a run of the mill beater guitar can sound just as good, and play almost as good as a fancy pants one if cultivated properly.
I don't think I've tried to talk you into much other than buying other guitars...... as you were.
Re: Gear talk: TALK ME OUT OF IT
19I think the #1 consideration would be that if you end up having regrets, you'd be pretty much screwed (unless you sold it to someone that was totally cool with selling it back to you). Seems like there are about 1-2 EGCs on Reverb at any given time and we all have heard how it is being on the waiting list unless you're in a band on a label like Relapse or whatever.Owen wrote: Considering selling my EGC Acrylic Chessie.
If you like that guitar in every way except the weight, I'm sure accommodations could be made to help, but I'm not going to assume you haven't already investigated. I had to go w/ padded straps for all my guitars/basses due to shoulder pain after about 10 minutes of playing.
Do you have any photos of this? An acrylic Chessie looks bonkers-crazy in my mind.
Re: Gear talk: TALK ME OUT OF IT
20It's pretty great. About 11 lbs, EGC humbucker in the bridge and EGC single coil in the neck, denison style neck. It's my first EGC, I had several Beans in the 90s and this scratches the itch mostly, but I can't compare this with full aluminum EGCs. I took to this pretty quickly, I am usually an SG or Telecaster guy since being priced out of the Bean market.
