It's pretty great. About 11 lbs, EGC humbucker in the bridge and EGC single coil in the neck, denison style neck. It's my first EGC, I had several Beans in the 90s and this scratches the itch mostly, but I can't compare this with full aluminum EGCs. I took to this pretty quickly, I am usually an SG or Telecaster guy since being priced out of the Bean market.

Past that it is pretty great, what is the "Why?..."

Is it really head an shoulders over an SG/Tele? Never mind some of the snazzy variations on an SG that around these days...

I would say make sure you understand that you can’t replace it. The waits are ridiculous.

If you’re fine with that, I’d find some other guitar that you like the feel of and put EGC or wide range pickups in it. Replace one guitar with one guitar. If you play shows, switching between an LP and a Tele might put a crimp in your style. Neither of those are the lightest or most ergonomic options in the world of wood, either.

Seriously. I don't know how anyone plays guitars without forearm contours, but obviously loads of people do, so that's just me.

That EGC looks cool as hell but if it hurts you to play it, then I think you should sell it and get something comfortable.

My next guitar is gonna be parts from Warmoth. You could get a chambered body from them, in any sort of wood/finish you want, and end up with a guitar that weighs almost half what the EGC does.

A Les Paul Standard isn't much lighter, maybe a pound less. Some version of a 335 type body might be closer to what you've been playing on, and will probably be lighter than your Chessie or a Les Paul. Or if you really want a humbucker guitar that won't wear you down look at a double cutaway, SG or some other.

I think the Les Paul Traditional is weight relieved. Maybe check that out. My 335 was surprisingly heavy.

If I were OP, I would try some Reverend models, and maybe an early 90s Les Paul Special - that’ll be light, and the early 90s Gibson neck profile was better than the more recent 50s neck or 60s neck. They also made Juniors with anachronistically real bridges instead of the wrap around piece of shit during that time, if you can do a single dog ear pickup. A Nighthawk or a Fender Toronado might not be a bad fit either.

What are you using for a strap? If you're having shoulder pain, the Mono Betty strap seems to help for a lot of folks with heavy instruments.

Not a lot to add to what everyone else said, but would you have to sell it right away in order to get a Les Paul or Tele? You could always pick up a Squier Classic Vibe Tele, see how you do with it and whether you go back to the EGC.

And as other folks pointed out, you could easily end up with a LP that's the same weight or more (or even a Tele if it's a 70s Fender).

yeah.. I've played or owned a bunch of Teles and the weight can vary a lot. The lightest (swamp ash La Cabronita) almost feels like a Danelectro whereas the heaviest is just shy of a Les Paul.

Yeah, I remember going to Rock and Roll Vintage once and trying out 3 or 4 70s Teles and while they had some variance, they were all super heavy. The early 00s AVRI '52 Tele that I've got is much lighter than those, but not as light as some of the super cheap import ones I've checked out.

Also, if trying a different strap doesn't cut it, you might be able to find someone to do a trade for a different EGC. In my experience the acrylic bodies are definitely a couple pounds heavier than the aluminum bodied ones.

Might dick around with a better strap. Mine is just a simple nylon.

My burden is all the guitars I like are all sort of heavy. I had a Telecaster 2 years ago that was close to 9 lbs, I could play it all day and it never bothered me, but the 11 lbs does cause an ache after an hour+ of playing. Its weird how those 2 lbs seem to make a difference, maybe the strap will help. For the meantime I will deal with it, and maybe see about one of those squires and see how they feel.
