Congrats, BP! All the love to Kate.

Had shoulder surgery last Tuesday. Took one day off from work and was back at it by Thanksgiving. Thinking this was a big mistake. I'm a food/beverage purchaser for a high class workout facility. We're open on all holidays. Been at this job since April of this year and have been doing an excellent job of it. My shoulder situation has caused me to slow down and not be as efficient as I once was. As much as it pains me to say this stupid job has made me feel like part of a team. A lot of people depend on me, and I'm happy to go above and beyond my responsibilities. The members of our club pay a shitload of money to do whatever it is they feel like they have to do - especially on holidays - and my absence would be felt. I took it upon myself to come in on Thanksgiving and do the best I could. One of our coolers broke down so we had to move all of our produce to various other place in the facility. Ended-up using a vendors truck which is now parked in our dock to cool our most precious items. Everything's a mess. I'm not using my arm, but my other arm is working overtime and affecting the muscles that were repaired. I'm unsure if I fucked my arm up again, or if it's infected, but by Saturday morning my left bicep looked like it was repeatedly beaten with a bat (I also suffered many hugs on Friday night at the Nonagoon show). Regardless, my carelessness for my own well-being is prolonging the healing process. I think it's time to step back. I have a follow-up appointment this afternoon. Fingers crossed.

Randy, please remember to take care of yourself!

The Suicide Prevention Nonprofit where I work is hosting a Giving Tuesday auction. There are tons of merchandise bundles from bands like Olivia Tremor Control, Elf Power, and Wilco. All proceeds go to benefit our mission of providing mental health care for musicians in the Athens area.

You can bid now, of course, you don't have to wait until tomorrow.

Everything's right on schedule. Guess I'm just a big worrywart. A straight nervous nellie. A for real pantywaist. Now onto rehab/therapy 3x a week. It's gonna be painful.

A wet blanket.

Take care of yourself post-operation Randy, you need those arms to do things. That is unless you plan to play the drums with your feet (I'm sure you could try).

Town is full of Fairground Travellers and Pickpockets ahead of Lincoln Xmas market. There have been six people attacked/robbed near the train station already. I got followed from the train station, then up and down the bus station. Guy followed me onto the bus... heard me ask for my destination from the driver and then tried to blag a free ride to the same place I was going. He was eyeballing me all the way home.

I started to become very uncomfortable, so I threw him for a loop by saying "see you tomorrow" and then got off a stop earlier to avoid having him follow me down a dark side street. Police aren't really out in force til the market starts tomorrow. There will be 250,000 visitors to my neighbourhood expected over the four days the market is on. Fun for all the family, but not if you live right next to it. Security barriers, Armed Police, Drones, etc will be in operation from command centre 50 metres from my house tomorrow. I'll be glad when it's over.

'Tis the Season

Craigslist in L.A. is just a nightmare. It's people wanting to make it, people looking for 21-26 year olds, old metal guys who think 1986 was the best year for music and don't want to change. I stopped looking there years ago.

My wife, seeing that I've been grumpy and depressed from not playing music, put u pan ad or me on the local nextdoor page, as well as a neighborhood facebook page. She got a lot of people who were like "oh my 45 year old husband used to be in weird bands." It ended up working well and I've met some really cool people.

This cheered me immensely on a slate grey London morning. Salut to you, your wife and all the cool people!

I woke up at 5am in a fair bit of pain, after having had my Covid booster shot yesterday morning. Wrists and teeth aching like fuck, and every bone I've ever broken felt lit up like a Xmas tree.

Brilliantly, paracetamol squished it pretty effectively. I think it's also knowing that it's not actually being ill, that it's a kind of flu symptoms simulator. It doesn't matter if it hurts, it's not going to develop into anything.

Probably a combination of the internet evolving and me living in smaller cities for the past 6 years.. but I remember combing through Chicago CL many years ago and it wasn't uncommon finding stuff like "if you dig US Maple and This Heat, maybe we should jam!" But my god all I see now are church band ads, aspiring cover bands, creepy men with dungeon studios looking for 'female singers', ads for Lhasa Apso puppies, etc. I've nearly written people citing basic bands like the Pixies as an influence because the bar has been lowered so much..
