As a kid "Memory Lane" by Minnie Ripperton tore me up something awful: "save me...save me, save me, save me..." she died weeks later. What a beautiful, poignant song.
Got a little misty watching Jake E. Lee do a ripping performance of RR's solo for "Mr. Crowley" at UIC Pavilion in '86. My friends laughed at me, but I was feeling it and will exhibit no shame.

22Grew up with the Seattle stuff and although I never listen tho those bands anymore, I must say that three Pearl Jam tracks still get me; Daughter, release and Rearviewmirror. Three very simple songs from the songwrting point of view, but that Vedder fluke really nails it there.

23Whoa, dudes. Didn't expect to find you here! Let's enjoy this moment before everyone inevitably starts laughing at Pearl Jam.jason from volo wrote: Wed Dec 22, 2021 7:47 amThe relatively non-sensical (lyric-wise) "Yellow Ledbetter" has gotten me pretty close to shedding a tear. Fairly simple, yet powerful, tune.Vibracobra wrote: Wed Dec 22, 2021 3:51 am Grew up with the Seattle stuff and although I never listen tho those bands anymore, I must say that three Pearl Jam tracks still get me; Daughter, release and Rearviewmirror. 25I can't listen to this one without getting a lump in my throat...
"What am I gonna do with 40 subscriptions to Vibe?"
I talk disjointed music-related guff over here. You're welcome.

27I Know It's Over and Back to the Old House are capable of getting me close - they give me the feels, as the kids (used to?) say.
In a different direction - on a different planet - the theme tune from the TV programme Black Beauty and the theme song from The Littlest Hobo definitely get the tears ready to trickle.
What really hits me, though, is Bright Eyes from Watership Down. I was four when it was in the charts and I remember being excited and saying 'Mum! Mum! Rabbit music's on!'*
Nostalgia? Yup. Sentimentality? Yup. Sheer shitheadedness? Yup. But it takes me to a time when I was too young and dumb to know what a pointless grind life is. Sigh...
*What an utter twat...

28Oh if we're talking themes from shows, Bagpuss often gets me close, although that's more voiceover and flourishes.

30One that came to mind a few weeks ago: "Nostalgia" by The Chameleons U.K.
Have always had a high opinion of the band.
It's pretty rare that I'll hear a song that genuinely soars like this, packs such an emotional wallop. The Youtube file linked to above doesn't quite do it justice.
