Big time. I feel like it's becoming less of a thing, but there is definitely this "safe place" that Canadian boomers like to go to when discussing racism, genocide, foreign policy etc... "Oh yeah, we don't have that here" like slaves didn't build the Canadian Pacific railroad.

10,000 Maniacs released their album Our Time in Eden in September of 1992, nearly 30 years ago now. That album included the song "Candy Everybody Wants".

The second line of the song is "If lust and hate is the candy", and the third line is "If blood and love taste so sweet". For some inexplicable reason, "lust and hate" is a singular subject, grammatically speaking, but "blood and love" is a plural subject. I find this lack of parallelism in the sentence structure upsetting.

Also, "who do you want to blame" really should be "whom do you want to blame".
