The Lonely Trojans - Ten Past Five (1993)

The band started out here in Tucson and released a split 7" with Tempe punx G-Whiz on Toxic Shock in 1989. They relocated to Chicago and put out a six song EP in 1991. Before moving back to Tucson and breaking up they completed a studio session with Iain Burgess and Pegboy drummer Joe Haggerty, resulting in this three track single. Bassist Gerard Schumacher was also in Weird Lovemakers (with Dave Riley) and the awesome Knockout Pills.

Around 1993 when Dave N and I were booking shows out of our house in Flagstaff we got this record in the mail randomly. It's one of my favorite songs in the world, with cool chorded guitar riffs and great lyrics about growing old that still resonate year after year. Play it real loud.

The Endd - Project Blue (1967)

I won this 45 at an outdoor fair in my hometown of Whiting IN when I was 7 or 8 years old. Apparently The Endd were a local NW Indiana band who put out four singles on Seascape Records, which has an address in LaPorte! The song is a great Yardbirds knockoff psychedelic garage rock nugget. Wish I'd taken better care of it; a clean copy of the 45 now fetches around $300.

This is actually a B-side, but I just love the hypnotic laid back feel.

The girl group era has quite a few of these. Big ups to the Girls In The Garage comps for getting a lot of them out there.

There was a band in Tucson called the Gamera Crowns that put out a single at some point in the mid-90’s. To my knowledge, it was the only thing they put out. I played the shit out of that record. Only saw them live once. They were confrontational and had a drummer that beat the living daylights out of his snare.

Craziest thing is "Project Blue" is a cover of a Chicago record by The Banshees from '66!
