Hiya, I am Lisa aka Betty Howls. I was introduced to the forum by my husband, Chad Decent, who was a member of the old forum starting about 10 ish years ago. We went to our first PRF event in 2014, where Chad played with his other bandmates in Reverb Bomb. We have attended other events over the years up until around 2017. When life and then the pandemic got in the way of travel as we live on the northernmost shore of Lake Superior in Ontario.
I read over Chad's shoulder on some posts previous to my joining, and to be honest was a bit hesitant of making my own account, as I am not a prolific musician as the rest of you rad people are. I do play instruments, violin, drums and I am hoping to dig into the cello soon. I am also involved in our local scene to a certain extent and have been a radio host for at least 18 years, 2 when I was in University, and 16 for the last 16 years. I have the longest running feminist program, which is called Betty Howls, at our local campus and community station, along with another show, called After Hours that I try to make as like 'brave new waves' but also my own, as possible. I also sit on the local community radio board as a secretary and a director, and it has led me to see music and radio in a whole different light.
I met Conan and Lindsey at our first PRF BBQ and immediately felt like I just met a branch of the family I didn't know I had (among so many others ). It was pretty fab. The energy of the PRF was, to be honest, at times shockingly wonderful.
Conan asked me if I would be interested in joining Noperadio.com shortly thereafter, but as usual life got busy and super complicated for a while and so I didn't join Nope until about two years ago as one of the alternating hosts of the
PRF Radio Hour on Saturday nights. The show only plays PRF bands, or bands that have played PRF events. Now I am the main host of this show, and I ask forum members or people from bands that have played events to guest host or curate an episode to give everyone a chance to have time to share their favourite PRF bands/songs. After a few months of doing the PRF Radio hour, I started my own show on Nope radio called 90 Minutes of Noise, on Monday nights.
I thought it would be rad for as many prf'ers to know that we are playing your music on the radio as possible and so joined the forum as myself very recently to do just that. I post at least once a week on the PRF Radio Hour thread, and I am trying to read a few threads here and there so that I not only can possibly comment on my own, but also, so I can feel that sense of belonging that you get at a PRF event being with you all, at least until we can travel down and around to you all once again.
nice to meet you all, cheers
