So I wrote and self-published a book (I'm seeing all the other self-promotion posts are music, I hope this is okay) titled The Art of the Stab. You can get it at Amazon!
It's about seven kids who just graduated from high school who get together to play a game of Diplomacy. It takes the form of an oral history. Oh, and it's not too long. Maybe 80,000 words.
... I don't suppose anyone's up for a PRF game of Diplomacy?
Re: The Art of the Stab
2Congrats, Anonymous 37! As noted in a different thread, I enjoyed your debut. Looking forward to reading this one before the end of the year, though the to-read pile is pretty big now.
If I have money for books, I try to buy/subsequently read at least one independently published title a month; as with music, if one only consumes "the major label shit," they're missing out!

3I will be purchasing a copy for my library's Fiction collection...we don't have a lot of board game-related novels, but I'm always looking for some!Anonymous37 wrote: Sun Aug 22, 2021 4:26 pm So I wrote and self-published a book (I'm seeing all the other self-promotion posts are music, I hope this is okay) titled The Art of the Stab. 4Excellent -- let me know what you think of it when you get a chance to read it.Dylan wrote: Wed Sep 22, 2021 12:19 pmI will be purchasing a copy for my library's Fiction collection...we don't have a lot of board game-related novels, but I'm always looking for some!Anonymous37 wrote: Sun Aug 22, 2021 4:26 pm So I wrote and self-published a book (I'm seeing all the other self-promotion posts are music, I hope this is okay) titled The Art of the Stab. 5I finally read it! I ordered, catalogued it, and checked it - and then got busy with a bunch of stuff...but this week, I made it a priority and finished it. It's really good - a very cool and unique take on a classic story. I've never played Diplomacy, but having read a bunch of session reports for other games, I can tell you took great care to describe the game states, and you gave each character different voices and play styles. Great title, as well, as it reveals itself later in the book. Just wanted to let you know I enjoyed it very much!Anonymous37 wrote: Wed Sep 22, 2021 1:35 pmExcellent -- let me know what you think of it when you get a chance to read it.Dylan wrote: Wed Sep 22, 2021 12:19 pmI will be purchasing a copy for my library's Fiction collection...we don't have a lot of board game-related novels, but I'm always looking for some!Anonymous37 wrote: Sun Aug 22, 2021 4:26 pm So I wrote and self-published a book (I'm seeing all the other self-promotion posts are music, I hope this is okay) titled The Art of the Stab. 6Thank you! You are the first person who isn’t a big Diplomacy player to have read it all the way through (that I know of), and I would have settled for “this was a coherent piece of fiction”, but I am especially happy to hear that you actually like it.Dylan wrote: Tue Dec 21, 2021 4:20 pmI finally read it! Next up for me is a science fiction novel. I’m thinking 3 months of research, 5 months for the first draft, another … you know what, I’ll DM you when I’m close to publication.
