Okay so it seems like non-dirt is the general direction to head in. That's a biggish sandbox with lots of room to work. Tremolos, Vibratos, Delays, Filters are all on the table.

Totally possible, though maybe a little on the utilitarian side? Not that that's a bad thing is just less exciting.

Longer delay time than a MM or longer than most delays like a MM? This is maybe possible.

Garth wrote: Thu Jan 27, 2022 12:25 pm a delay w/ a ring mod on it
Well now that's fun isnt it. Little simple delay with a pseudo ring mod that only affects the delays? Like a green ringer on the repeats.

Orange Squeezer + Green Ringer combo pedal.
2/4/6 switchable stage FET phaser ala Phase 45/90/100 but with a clean blend knob
Some sort of modulator with 2 LFOs
1) BYOC used to offer a kit for that sorta thing called the "Armstrong Twin" I believe. Doable, but is that desirable for everyone?
2) No chance on the FET phaser. FETs arent that available anymore and making a good quality FET-phaser requires matching FETs. Its a lot. Its one reason why my phasers are OTA-style, but also because I like the sound better.
3) Maybe? How do you mean? Like something switchable between two different speeds, or something with two LFOs going at once?

The Yeoman Ghost wrote: Thu Jan 27, 2022 2:59 pm A wet/dry blend control seems like something every modulation pedal should have. And I don’t think a single one of my modulation pedals does.
Not really a wet/dry blend because that wouldnt make sense with a phase shifter, but my standard phasers have an intensity control.

Chud Fusk wrote: Thu Jan 27, 2022 3:56 pm This sounds really boring on paper, but I am positive it would stay on the boards of the PRF longer than a wacky fuzz etc:

A buffered effect loop with a clean boost and a blend knob and a nice quiet footswitch.
Again...very utilitarian which is cool, but not so exciting.

I dug through my books and here's a couple of things i've thought about that could be fun, or fun places to start:
- Envelope Filter
- Harmonic Tremolo
- Vibrato
- Pseudo ring-mod
- LFO wah
- maaaaybe a sample/hold kinda thing?

Yeah, probably the former? I know Analogman would do a mod to increase the delay time to 550ms...but what if it was longer?

You can cascade delay chips together for longer times but there's diminishing returns there. A DMM already has two BBD chips cascaded together, but doing any more will make things a lot more noisy.

If FETs are an issue go with OTA. I still love the idea of switchable stages mainly because I prefer the subtly of a 2-stage, which is also why I suggested the clean blend, (because a Phase 90 and Small stone are both too extreme for my usage generally) but also kinda nice to be able to go that nuts sometimes.

As for dual LFOs, I meant same time to get odd out of sync cycles. But two footswitchable speeds would also be rad.

This is outside of the charity build suggestions as it probably would have limited interest: a pedal along the lines of the Shin -Ei Companion ME-7, with hurricane, surf and siren effects. The original had a wah but that can be provided by the folks at Dunlop or whoever. Maybe add some other traditional effect so it’s not 100% gimmicky. Were those custom chip designs, difficult to replicate?

That’s why a blend control appeals to me, as well. I like the idea of being able to use flange or phase to add a little color when playing lead, without the effect completely washing out the signal. On the other hand, I like the idea of the pedal also being able to go full live-“Freak Scene” if I want it to.

On that note, I do love that “Freak Scene” flange sound, which is—I think—a Big Muff into an Electric Mistress. I’d love to have that in a single pedal: something that can take a completely clean, JC-120 clean sound to “Freak Scene” jetplane flange with one stomp. With a blend control. (Maybe there’s something already out there that does that. Kerble me gently.)
