They sure talked a lot of vague ad hominem stuff about Dem socialists turning our country communist and then were pretty chill about the resurrection of the USSR rolling over feeble democracies.DaveA wrote: Thu Feb 24, 2022 9:38 pm Thinking Republicanism is not only a death cult, but also weirdly anti-American...where most of our supposed ideals are at stake.
Yep, that’s pretty much it. I’m never not amazed at the hypocrisies that people will accept from themselves.losthighway wrote: Thu Feb 24, 2022 10:19 pmThey sure talked a lot of vague ad hominem stuff about Dem socialists turning our country communist and then were pretty chill about the resurrection of the USSR rolling over feeble democracies.DaveA wrote: Thu Feb 24, 2022 9:38 pm Thinking Republicanism is not only a death cult, but also weirdly anti-American...where most of our supposed ideals are at stake.
Same here, although I did manage to sleep with the aid of some medical assistance.jfv wrote: Wed Feb 23, 2022 10:01 pm Watching the news, just about sick to my stomach, probably not going to sleep tonight.
I’m no expert in global politics, but Putin has clearly shown that he is a delusional, evil madman who also has 6,000-some nuclear weapons at his disposal. I can kind of understand proceeding with caution here, though I too wonder if more could be done.HeavenIsInYrBeard wrote: Sat Feb 26, 2022 4:51 am I'm wondering if anyone else suspects that Trump knew this was in the pipeline all along, and that he made a cynical under-the-table deal with Putin for the latter not to invade the Ukraine until the former was out of office? That way any criticisms of the US response - whether of the too-hard or too-soft variety - are more likely to be directed at Biden. Pure speculation I know, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen.
On another note - you know the world's gone crazy when you find yourself agreeing with Boris Johnson about something for the first - and probably last - time re. the issue of EU sanctions on Russia not going far enough to make a significant impact. I mean yeah, let's ban Russia from competing in Eurovision. That'll teach 'em, for sure.
Pretty sure they’re all quite evil, but I think we would be remiss to forget that just a few months ago it was NATO blowing up innocent families and dropping teenagers off the nosegear of airplanes.
Don't get me wrong. Recent events have reminded me of horrible things that the USA has done during my lifetime... our meddling with much smaller Latin American countries for the supposed sake of our own security, for example.
Well, they’re only resurrecting the expansionist, draconian and Russocentric aspects of the USSR. They’re not bringing back the universal healthcare or the abolition of homelessness. If they did, the Newsmax chuds would be calling for Putin’s head on a plate.Frankie99 wrote: Sat Feb 26, 2022 2:46 amYep, that’s pretty much it. Whatever gets you through the night, indeed.
