Not sure I agree that replacing the power amp is a necessary step - those quilters sound quite good and the class D makes it so heads can fit in your guitar case or pedal board. Combined w/ neo speakers and you've got a damn fine guitar rig that you can carry into the club in one trip.

John from Stomatopod used his at the campout last fall and when I was mixing the live sets, I mistakenly thought he was using my backlined V4. Nope, Quilter. I was like wtf does he have on his pedal board that is making my head to make it sound so...modern (I don't mean that word as an insult, it was a good tight distortion sound & perfect for what he does in that context especially). Ike's been using one for years too - again, he sounds great.

My Acoustic 270 weighs more than some of the even more powerful all-tube heads I have.

A switchable Sunn/Traynor/GK pre into one of those ICEPower class D modules would be cool. No need to reinvent the wheel or use unobtanium output transistors

I know it wouldn't be totally solid state, but I'd be way into a B15N preamp (version with the ultra high/low switches) into one of those. Sounds like an excellent idea to me.

A PRF SS pre-in-a-pedal would be of interest to me. The switching that Nate suggested sounds awesome, but I'm open to see what other ideas come up.

Maybe it's more than just a preamp. Maybe it's not exactly a pedal. I dunno. But this direction sounds pretty rad.

It's been pretty interesting seeing the Quilter stuff pop up w/ some surprising bands like Cave In and Russian Circles who've definitely been all about big ass heavy tube amps in the past.

Also gonna proxy vote for the Holmes Mississipi Bluesmaster design for my brother.

I'd imagine dude will have almost no problem parting with it for a couple so that the Doctor can do his thing.
