what you need if you want to be cool ispenningtron wrote: Wed Mar 23, 2022 1:16 pmA Thinline Tele was another thought but there I would be starting nearly from scratch. I have the semi-hollow itch (on the cheap) but don't know if either of these would scratch it.
Re: Gear talk: TALK ME OUT OF IT
72Well all the guitars mentioned have some cavity, just some more than others. I know with Warmoth Teles at least can have a cavity that wraps around most of the body, I don't know if that's an add on option and how it compares to a normal or 70s Thinline. Now will they sound like an ES-335.. probably not, and an ES-335 doesn't sound like an archtop, etc.Garth wrote: Wed Mar 23, 2022 2:05 pm Without an actual resonant cavity I just don't really see the value but someone with those kinds of guitars and better ears than I have should probably chime in instead.
ugh.. that's FM Dave Grohl's guitar.. no thanks.TylerDeadPine wrote: what you need if you want to be cool is..

73Eric Johnson already had this idea, if that helps talk you out of it. Look at his current signature Strat.penningtron wrote: Wed Mar 23, 2022 12:42 pm A Stratocaster body with an F hole doesn't have enough body mass or hollowed-out cavity (it's only a sliver in the upper bout) to make a damn difference sound wise, right? Please talk me out of this brain fart of an idea..
Not sure about Strats, but I've had solid and thinline teles with the same pickup in them and they definitely sound a little different. The semi hollow has a crisper top end and a different mid resonance. Looser, maybe? The solid body has more attack and a tighter low.Garth wrote: Wed Mar 23, 2022 1:11 pm I wouldn't think so. This is probably only going to reduce a tiny bit of weight and add a bit of deco.
My Thinline Tele disagrees!
Re: Gear talk: TALK ME OUT OF IT
74Yep.. pretty much anything that can be done to a Strat already has been, and sure enough you can find finished alder bodies with the hole/chamber for $120 on eBay. Sadly the dorky element alone hasn't scared me away..tommy wrote: Wed Mar 23, 2022 3:10 pmEric Johnson already had this idea, if that helps talk you out of it. Re: Gear talk: TALK ME OUT OF IT
75You could get an entire used Squier Classic Vibe 60s Thinline for about the price of a Warmoth body. The Classic Vibe series is mostly pretty great.penningtron wrote: Wed Mar 23, 2022 1:16 pm A Thinline Tele was another thought but there I would be starting nearly from scratch. EDIT: just saw you found some cheap hollow Strat bodies.

Re: Gear talk: TALK ME OUT OF IT
79Just going to point out...
In addition to the "Classic Coke..." sounds?
It apparently comes with a bunch of "Helix..." delays and a "Secret..." set of reverb sounds, to boot.
While I started off coming from about where you seem to be here?
I can almost justify the price tag if someone gets all of that for the money...
Re: Gear talk: TALK ME OUT OF IT
80If only we had someone that could give us the inside scoop!
I was wondering when Line6 would release a new one - the most ubiquitous delay of the 2000s?
