Boston bands

1
Kerble me if you gotta, but this topic has been lingering in the back of my mind.

The city of Boston seems an interesting entity in rock history. Forever disparaged as a backwater by snooty New Yorkers, the town has a way of producing unique bands. Apparently it was the Dead Kennedys' favorite tour stop.

A few great bands come to mind:

The Pixies
Mission of Burma
The Lemonheads
The Freeze

And just off campus, down the highway:
Buffalo Tom
Dinosaur Junior
Throwing Muses

So what is it about the Boston scene, specifically in the 80's and 90's? And how many amazing Boston bands am I totally missing on these lists?

Boston is a great town, musically or otherwise.

Not sure if that’s a surprise, though. And, as a midwesterner, I don’t really see a particular bias against Boston (or for NY).

MOR-wise, you have Boston. Aerosmith. The Cars.

You mentioned many critically-acclaimed bands.

Anyway, I think Boston has gotten its due as a rock & roll town. There are other cities that have been more substantially overlooked IMO.
