To me: the self-titled Songs: Ohia record, The Lioness, and Axxess & Ace are all absolutely indispensable and relatively easy to get into.

Ghost Tropic and Didn’t It Rain took me longer to fully appreciate, but I now consider them equally indispensable.

All the other records are still good, of course. These are just the particular journey I took.

These two might be tied for my favorite releases of his.

Also great:
Josephine, Pyramid Electric Co (in the right mood), and Lioness. Also the seven inch with The Gray Tower. That song might be the most haunting take on decaying small-town America.

On the kind of okay shelf:
What Comes After the Blues, Trials and Errors (live)

I think Didn't It Rain is where I got on board as well. A friend played it or bought me a copy or something. I would have been jamming the Ditch Trilogy stuff pretty hard at that time.

To read everything you've got to pay a subscription, but it also allows you to order the new 2xLP S:O vinyl release from 2000 (with the band that made up much of the Magnolia Electric Co. LP):

This should give a pretty good indication of that Live: Vanquishers 2LP along with the You Came To Me As A Ghost live one. Dates are all pretty close.

I bow out at the Magnolia Electric Co. stuff but most everything previous are some of my favourite sounds ever. In particular, the Translation version from the split CD I wish they had jammed on much longer, The Journey On outro bit, The Grey Tower joint FM losthighway mentioned is a high point for sure, Blue Factory Flame b/w Two Blue Lights, the slight shifts on Ghost Tropic and the Pyramid Electric Co. records, etc & etc... Would love to be down in that hole again for the first time.
