I read some article recently talking about longform UT videos and how they have become popular because "people are interested in more detail", before going on to mention (IMO the real reason) that people have had much more time to kill with lockdowns and stuff.

And yeah, many longer videos seem padded out to say the least.

Ick - no. :P

Sometimes, videos are long and contain a lot of detail, and these are really valuable. But a lot of videos are just... long.

Anyway, my entry for today is people over the age of 3 who chew with their mouths open (people with medical reasons excepted, of course).

Just need to vent since I'm off FB for a minute.

The right-wing base in this country continues to completely show its hypocritical ass on what it really stands for: Bigotry. They'll cry and shit the bed and take over capitol buildings in armed protest about masks and vax on their children and bray and stomp their feet about "don't tell me how to raise my kids and jesus and guns and freedom" and all that flag-waving nonsense....but in the exact same breath are ALL ABOARD when it comes to CAUSING ACTUAL HARM to other people's kids when it comes to their unflinching support of this anti-trans legislation and don't say gay horseshit. And there's no shortage of power-hungry opportunists ready to capitalize on this cesspool.

Kids are dying. And some of these kids will be theirs. I don't know if "genocide" is too strong a word to use here since I don't know what number threshold needs to be reached to meet the definition but goddam what a fucking nightmare. I cannot imagine being a parent right now.

For fuck sake, what is wrong with people thinking that it is OK to not wear a mask on the El?

I don't have the option to socially distance myself from privileged white jagoffs (and it almost always is a white person in their 20s or 30s) who blatantly disregards the mask mandate.

This morning, I was able to persuade one dude to put his mask on, only to have 5 more people without masks get on the train at the next few stops.

I've got a compromised medical history. I don't need more health complications from Covid just because assholes are over being concerned about the pandemic.

You ever find out an act you like was in your area and you weren't aware of it, and you missed the show? I found out that Ata Kak, this rapper from Ghana, was in Lawrence, KS on Monday night. I don't know if I would've made the trip - a 2.5 hour drive - but it would've been nice to know! *long sigh*
"Whatever happened to that album?"
"I broke it, remember? I threw it against the wall and it like, shattered."

I wear a mask about 25% of the time I go outside. It's terrible. There has never been any such official mandates here and hardly anybody else does it.

With all the apparent uncertainty and seeming flip-flopping on the question initially, I reasoned that it probably didn't matter. Seems the verdict landed on "masks: yes" eventually, but for above mentioned reasons I consistently forget about it. It's just not part of the routine.

(As an aside, it's fun to note the differences in domestic reactions and attitudes. While folks in some other places want to overthrow the government because of mandates and lockdowns, in Sweden folks have accused the public health advisor of being a eugenicist who is fine with old people dying.)

This happened all the time in South Bend - the Notre Dame students as well as the old "Senior Bar" used to have really fucking awesome shows that were students only. I missed Unwound playing in a basement at their absolute peak which for me was around Repetition. This was a different kind of missing the show too because not only was I not in the loop to hear about it, it was intentionally exclusionary to townies.
masks on the El
Don't get me started. I was one of the 2% of people wearing masks at the Low shows in Michigan and I think the only one wearing an N95. 2 days after, Alan broke the news on Twitter that they and members of their support act were covid+. This shit ain't over and based just on anecdotal evidence it's hard not for me not to feel like it's being dramatically under-reported. Really wondering if the prevalence of home tests are skewing the reported cases.
