This is a good reminder for me to go through and check maintenance on all the mechanicals on my pedals etc. Figure if you're playing for a stretch...how many repetition cycles are you doing? Thousands? Get some oil on it! Check the nuts for being loose!

I absolutely loved my DW pedal but I'll be damned if it didn't fly to bits on me. Wasn't smart/sober enough in those days to think to be checking for maintenance frequently...and I think I can say based on other's commiseration that the DW needs about as much maintenance as an old Harley.

Update: Tore down my oldest Iron Cobra (I bought it in the '90s) and discovered that the bearings looked like they'd been smeared with Marmite. I swapped out a pair of Bones Reds and they fit perfectly. It was so easy that it didn't even occur to me to take any photos.

The pedal plays better than new now. I did a three hour solo practice last night and it was great.

Anyone know where to get a replacement threaded cymbal stand post for a vintage Ludwig Atlas stand? You know, the one that screws into the stand that the cymbal, washer, and felt sits on? It looks kind of like a part I'm seeing at camera stores for tripods. Sorta. The internet is telling me it *might* be 1/4-20 threads, but if anyone can confirm that too, that's a start.

For reference it looks kinda like this minus the small threaded part but it's longer and has a section of it without threads:

Take the heads off before cleaning, but also clean up the heads and reinstall them before taking photos. Some people buy a new set of cheap heads before taking photos, but that seems like a waste because the buyer is likely gonna replace them with what they like anyway.

Yeah, I don't remember if I read it on here but those Mr. Clean dry(wall) erasers are good for cleaning up coated heads.

hmmm... shop around, you should be able to still get a basic single or double ply head for $15/16. If not Evans try the Aquarian equivalent.

Dunno about sticks: I ordered a shit ton 3 years ago, and along with increased brush use, still have several new pairs to chew through.

This is a great tip, my one and only pedal is a 90s iron cobra that's never been serviced in any way. Could probably stand a cleaning and bearing swap. The original kevlar strap is still going fine though.

Evans G1 is $20.99 at Sweetwater and my regional shop (drum center NH). I mean, I'm not gonna have to eat ramen for a week if I get new heads, but I was surprised that stuff is up like 40% since I last bought sundries, maybe a year ago.
