I waved the white flag on tubescreamers long ago, but still find myself compelled to get "the" Big Muff for me. After working through a bunch of variants (wicker, Maxon, Ram's Head style, op amp), I think Russian might be where it's at, and so I ordered one of these a few days ago. We shall see.

I talk disjointed music-related guff over here. You're welcome.

I had (still have accesss to, sold it to my bandmate years ago) a D180 with EQ that I got for free when I bought a Bandmaster in rural IL about 10 years ago. Dude just threw it in (needed power tubes) and it is a rad fucking bass amp. Keep the master all the way up and plug into input 2 for bass. Keep Volume 1 turned down. Use Volume 2 as your overall volume. The master volume is worthless on these. You can get some unique gain if you plug into Input 1 and use both Volume 1 and 2 cascaded into each other, but I don't think that's where this amp shine.

It's the Cliff Burton amp.

Man, see, I'm almost worried about playing through this amp 'cause last thing I need is another heavy ass awesome sounding tube head.

Turned out the rig belonged to an old Bellingham friend, so I'll likely hold off on parting with the amp for a little while in case he wants it back.

I get it. But you should still try it. It can get pretty grindy which is good and bad. It would probably be the ultimate baritone guitar amp played through a bass cab and a guitar cab. Using both volumes would be cool in that usage (or guitar is kinda fun). A couple of the knobs have a pull shift feature. The treble one is too much for me but I dig the midshift one. Sorta reminds me of the pull thick on some old school Peavey amps.

Damn it, I'm really gonna have to try this thing out now!!!

If I keep it, definitely getting a lighter case for it, the stock road case it's in is stupid heavy, and doesn't have handles!!!

Got it. broken plastic part inside, cartridge was clunking around but everything still worked. Epoxied it back together and it's holding nicely. Just need to replace the foam, which, whatever. Not gonna treat it like a hammer so it lasts.

Nice!
Nothing quite like getting $1000 off!
DIY and die anyway.

I had to look this up. The prices on these things have shot up, haven't they? I got a broken one for something like $150 shipped about 6 or 7 years ago, and it was an easy fix. At that time, you could get nice used ones for $450 all day.

Thanks, I'm now totally cured of my lust for these. Buying a mic that is almost 4-figures but prone to plastic parts breaking off? uhhhhhh what.

I mean you shouldn't expect to drive nails w/ it (although never forget the Buchannan Hammer), but I tend to think of dynamic mics as being at least a BIT more rugged & certainly not integral parts being plastic. But this has been a gripe about those absolute dog-shit connectors for the MD421 as well.
